Business models describe the characteristics of the business logic of a company. In mechanical and plant engineering and related industries, business models become more complex. An im-portant reason is the progressive penetration of digitalization in business operations. Connected technologies deliver an important momentum for a further development of business operations. Recognizing such a momentum early is not trivial and demands a systematic support. Existing methods and tools for technology intelligence fall short, but there is a demand for a holistic approach.Thus, the goal of this thesis is a systematic approach for a business model oriented technology intelligence in the context of strategic planning. Due to a holistic orientation towards a business model, technology intelligence provides impulses for further development in all facets of the business model. The developed procedure consists of five phases, beginning with the analysis of the business model. Afterwards a technology search is prepared and conducted. The identification of technologies is done by text mining and allows an efficient detection of weak signals. Identified technologies are evaluated and a technology exploration is planned.
