The aim of this assignment is to describe and evaluate factors influencing the process of nutrition education in day care centers in order to formulate recommendations for further development and consolidation of nutritional education in day care facilities. For this purpose, selected influencing factors were scrutinized and discussed through the analysis of documents, surveys and expert interviews.The area of food and nutrition education nationwide is hardly regulated by law. However, in terms of educational policy, food and nutrition education are attributed an importance. To which extent educational staff will be qualified for nutrition education during vocational training depends on the chosen path of qualification. During vocational training of childcare and social assistance comprehensive nutrition-related skills are to be acquired. However, during vocational training of educators and childhood educationalists nutrition-related contents are not conveyed nationwide.The factual equipment is given in almost all day care centers that had been surveyed. Nevertheless, nutrition education does not seem to be a self-evident part of everyday life in day care centers. Food and nutrition education are rarely defined in a pedagogical context. In addition, the understanding of nutritional education of day care center managers is heterogeneous and not always comprehensive. Furthermore, many day care center providers and provider associations dont seem to have realized nor the importance and diversity of the action field “food and nutrition” nor their responsibility they take over.
