Technological know-how and an abundance of ideas characterize Germanys position asa high-tech location. High-quality and high-performance products are crucial for businessmodels of German companies. But rapid change of markets and technologies require continuousadvancements of products and business models. By no means is this a trivial task:business models and technologies in products are more and more interlinked. This justifiesthe demand for an integrated advancement of products and business models, concurrentlyconsidering changes in markets and technologies during the product lifecycle.Therefore, the goal of this thesis is an approach for developing a product lifecycle orientedbusiness model roadmap. Core of the approach is a seven-phase procedure in terms of aguideline for methods, representation schemes and IT-tools. An analysis of the initialbusiness situation and an anticipation of market and technological developments duringa products lifecycle are the basis for the creation of new business ideas. Required changesof products are analyzed; upcoming costs are taken into account for the development ofa financial plan. Moreover, the behavior of competitors is anticipated and included. Basedon all results, a business model roadmap is derived that describes when and how to realizenew business model variants. The approach has been validated in industrial projects.
