In the present work, a methodology for technological and organizational system evaluation and design is developed for cutting production lines, according to the principles of lean manufacturing. The implied detailed planning of manufacturing systems, considering issues of the operational level, consists of two parts: Based on the evaluation model, the underlying principles of lean manufacturing are operationalized. In the context of waste, flexibility and variability, so-called Lean-Metrics are derived, which in turn decompose into technological and organizational system parameters. The second part of the methodology is formed by the optimization model, which minimizes the operating costs of the production line by an optimized dimensioning of the technological and organizational system parameters. In turn, this implies a variation of the Lean-Metrics and therefore the design of the manufacturing system according to the principles of lean manufacturing.
