Urged by Fabri to attempt an interpretation of Egyptian, Kircher recognized the importance of Coptic in the decipherment. Oriental type founts include Syriac, Arabic, Estranghelo, Samaritan, Chaldean, Hebrew, Rabbinical Hebrew, Aethiopic, Coptic, Saracen, and Hieroglyphic; quotations and examples from all these languages appear in the Latin text. First edition of this pioneering work of Egyptology.
