TY - JOUR AB - In this paper, we study "multitasking" within individual jobs based on the task approach. Utilising German panel data, we show that both digitalisation and outsourcing increase the number of tasks – and surprisingly, these effects are most evident for low-skilled occupations. More multitasking is associated with higher employability, but not with more training for employees in low-skilled occupations. Future research should investigate effects of multitasking on other aspects such as workload, job satisfaction, or wages.
