The acquisition of spelling skills has become a more or less distressing subject due to the heterogeneous learning conditions of our schools today. Only if we meet individual learning processes, we will be able to improve the learners situation. Consequently, teacher training should meet didactic and methodological standards to deal effectively with the acquisition of orthographic knowledge. It is the aim of this thesis to show that cognitive skills can be supported through digital learning programmes. The present software concept particularly corresponds with the requirements of lessons in which learners will be treated individually. Notwithstanding their age, the exercises intend to promote outstanding students and induce learners skills, which might develop more slowly. In opposition to software currently on the market, the concept of this software is based on an extensive linguistic and didactic background, also taking into account pedagogic and psychological theories. Thereby, specific instructions to the engineer have been incorporated found in the digital script in the addendum. These may be employed for the purpose of programming when the software is realised. In addition, a digital tool has been supplemented in order to demonstrate the diagnosis of a dictation as intended by the author.
