This doctoral thesis analyses the importance of cooperations and networks for the dynamic competitiveness of enterprises and organisations and for the improvement of quality in the health care market. The commitment to cooperation and networks is important not only for the management of enterprises and organisations in the health care market but also for regional policy. In the health care market the development of cooperations and networks is influenced by the government. An empirical study of the administrative region of Ostwestfalen-Lippe examines the present development of cooperation and networks. In this administrative region the health care market is an important sector, and the study clearly shows need for action. Recommendations for the region are illustrated by a dynamic model. This model comprises sequences of periods relating to cooperation and networks. It can support enterprises and organisations in the health care market with strategic and specific advice. The thesis concludes with examples of innovative networks in the region of Ostwestfalen-Lippe as useful guideposts.

Die vorliegende Arbeit liefert Erkenntnisse darüber, inwiefern Kooperationen und Netzwerke zur Steigerung der dynamischen Wettbewerbsfähigkeit in der Gesundheitswirtschaft sowie zur Verbesserung der Qualität der Gesundheitsversorgung beitragen. Die Erkenntnisse sind für das Management von Gesundheitseinrichtungen ebenso wie für die Regionalpolitik von Bedeutung. In der Gesundheitswirtschaft wird die Entwicklung von Kooperationen und Netzwerken durch staatliche Eingriffe beeinflusst. Eine empirische Untersuchung der Gesundheitsregion Ostwestfalen-Lippe zeigt, wie sich Kooperationen und Netzwerke in der Gesundheitswirtschaft dort derzeitig entwickeln. Darauf aufbauend werden Handlungsbedarfe sowie -empfehlungen anhand eines Kooperationsphasen-Modells aufgezeigt, das die zeitliche Abfolge der Entwicklung von Kooperationen und Netzwerken berücksichtigt. Abschließende Fallbeispiele für innovative Netzwerke in der Region Ostwestfalen-Lippe dienen als Wegweiser bei der Umsetzung der genannten Handlungsempfehlungen.
